Meet the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Evolution in Motion

Say hello to the future of hybrid SUVs—the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Building on the bold foundation of its 2022 predecessor, this latest model refines what was already a standout, blending modern upgrades with familiar strengths.

The 2022 Outlander wows with its imposing grille, aggressive lines, and head-turning road presence. For 2025, Mitsubishi has opted for subtle tweaks—a sharper front, fresh rear elements, and refined details. While the side profile remains classic Outlander, the updates inject a sleeker, more current vibe.

Inside, the 2022 model delivered comfort and functionality, featuring a digital dashboard, a sleek center console, and seating for seven. Fast forward to 2025, and the Outlander turns it up a notch: with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and central touchscreen; heated, ventilated front seats with a built-in massage function; and frameless digital rearview mirror for a futuristic touch.

Under the hood, Mitsubishi sticks to the winning formula but upgrades where it matters. The 2025 PHEV now boasts an enhanced electric range and efficiency, delivering 302 horsepower with a combined range of 884 kilometers. The reliable S-AWC all-wheel drive ensures balanced performance for every adventure.

The 2025 Outlander PHEV doesn’t just adapt—it evolves. It’s smarter, sleeker, and ready to redefine the road.

Are you ready to experience it?

Mitsubishi Motors

Mitsubishi Motors has been a leader in hybrid innovation since 2013, launching the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. Known for its advanced all-wheel-drive technologies and robust designs, Mitsubishi continues to embrace electrification, targeting 100% sales of electrified vehicles by 2035.

The brand’s philosophy, "I-Fu-Do-Do" (authentic and majestic), remains evident in its commitment to blending performance, efficiency, and sophistication in vehicles like the Outlander PHEV.

History of the Outlander

The Mitsubishi Outlander has been a cornerstone of the brand's success, combining spacious design, practicality, and innovative hybrid technology. As one of the first plug-in hybrid SUVs to hit the market, the Outlander PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) has consistently delivered a blend of performance, efficiency, and all-wheel-drive confidence.

Since its initial launch in 2013, Mitsubishi has refined and improved its flagship SUV, making it one of the top-selling PHEV models globally, including here in Australia.

Like its previous Mitsubishi Outlander models and other vehicles, the Mitsubishi Outlander 2025 is being produced at Mitsubishi’s Okazaki Plant in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

Why the Name ‘Outlander’?

The name ‘Outlander’ reflects the spirit of exploration and adventure. As a versatile crossover SUV, the Outlander is designed for families and individuals who seek comfort, reliability, and capability on all kinds of journeys—whether in the city or off the beaten path.

What’s New

The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV introduces significant upgrades under the hood and inside the cabin while keeping exterior changes subtle:

Expanded Electric-Only Range

The new 22.7kWh battery replaces the previous 20kWh unit, delivering an improved WLTP electric-only driving range of 86km. Under older NEDC testing standards, this could stretch to approximately 100km.

Powertrain Performance

The Outlander PHEV combines a 100kW/203Nm 2.4-litre petrol engine with an 85kW/255Nm front electric motor and 100kW/195Nm rear electric motor. This hybrid system produces a combined output of 225kW, up 40kW on the outgoing model, and accelerates from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds.

Updated Suspension & Steering

Mitsubishi has tuned the shock absorbers, spring rates, and electric power steering to improve ride comfort, cornering, and feedback.

Technology Upgrades

A larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system replaces the older 9.0-inch unit, now offering wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice commands activated by “Hello Mitsubishi.” Additional features include a digital rear-view mirror, ventilated front seats, and a Yamaha-designed premium audio system with up to 12 speakers.

Subtle Exterior Changes

While the grille and tail lights have been refined, the most notable visual update is the introduction of a new Moonstone Grey metallic paint and new alloy wheel designs.

Mitsubishi Outlander 2025 Engine and Performance

The 2025 Outlander PHEV combines:

With the new 22.7kWh battery and efficient hybrid modes, the Outlander PHEV offers an electric-only top speed of 135km/h and responsive acceleration. Fuel efficiency improvements and refined ride comfort ensure this hybrid SUV delivers a seamless driving experience for everyday and long-distance trips.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety and driver assistance features, prioritising both protection and convenience for drivers and passengers. These systems combine advanced technologies to enhance awareness, minimise risks, and make driving easier in various conditions.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

The Outlander PHEV integrates multiple Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) as standard, offering an extra layer of security on every journey:

  • Lane Departure Warning: This system constantly monitors your lane position and alerts you with audible and visual cues if it detects unintended lane drifting.
  • Forward Collision Mitigation with Pedestrian Detection: Using advanced sensors, this feature warns you of vehicles or pedestrians in your path. If a collision risk is imminent and no action is taken, the system automatically applies the brakes to avoid or minimise impact.
  • Blind Spot Warning: Alerts you to vehicles in your blind spots with visual indicators in the side mirrors. If you activate your turn signal while a vehicle is detected, the system issues an additional audible warning.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert: This feature scans for obstacles or approaching vehicles when reversing, providing an audible warning to help prevent collisions.

MI-PILOT Assist -

For long-distance driving, the MI-PILOT Assist system offers significant relief. By leveraging cameras and radar, this technology helps you maintain your position in the lane, adjust steering input, and manage speed in stop-and-go traffic. It’s a game-changer for reducing stress during extended drives.
Parking and maneuvering are made easier with the Multi-View Camera System. This feature uses multiple cameras to create a 360-degree composite image of the area around the vehicle. It provides a clear, wide-angle view that reduces blind spots and boosts confidence when navigating tight spaces.
The 2025 Outlander PHEV continues to uphold its five-star ANCAP safety rating, earned under the 2021 criteria. This rating remains valid until December 2028, ensuring that the vehicle meets stringent safety standards.

Mitsubishi Outlander Car Loan types

Types of Car Loans for Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2025

Excited about the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV? You’re not alone. As we wait for the official pricing and release details, it’s smart to gear up on your financing options now. Whether you’re drawn to its hybrid efficiency or eyeing it as your next big business upgrade, here’s a breakdown of how to get behind the wheel without breaking the bank through different car loans:

Secured vs Unsecured Car Loans:
Choosing What Works for You

A secured car loan is the go-to option if you want the lowest possible interest rate. Why? Your shiny new Outlander PHEV serves as collateral, which lowers risk for the lender—and lowers costs for you.

But here’s the thing: if you’re planning on installing a home charger, adding premium extras, or fitting out some custom accessories, these might not be covered under the secured loan. For those extras, an unsecured loan could step in to fill the gaps (just expect slightly higher interest rates).

Go Green, Save Green:
Green Car Loans for the Outlander PHEV

The Outlander PHEV isn’t just a hybrid—it’s your golden ticket to green car loans. Banks and lenders love rewarding eco-conscious drivers, often with lower rates and fewer fees. It’s a win-win: save money and feel good about choosing a more sustainable ride.

Pro tip: Green loans are highly competitive, so shop around for the lender offering the best

Balloon Payments:
Lower Now, Larger Later

Want smaller monthly repayments to keep your cash flow steady? A balloon payment option might be the way to go. Here’s how it works:
  • Pay smaller monthly installments throughout the loan term.
  • Finish with a lump sum (the “balloon”) at the end.

This approach can ease short-term strain on your budget, but don’t forget—you’ll either need to pay off that final amount in one hit or refinance when the time comes. It’s flexible now, with a decision waiting down the road.

Novated Leases:
Pre-Tax Savings for the Win

If your workplace offers a novated lease, it’s worth considering—especially if you love tax perks. With this option, your car repayments (and sometimes even running costs) are deducted straight from your pre-tax salary. That means more take-home pay for you and less stress over fuel, insurance, or servicing costs.

Oh, and did we mention you skip the GST on the car’s purchase price? Yep. It’s like financing with a cheat code.

Chattel Mortgages:
Business Owners, Take Note

For business use, a chattel mortgage could be your financing hero. If you plan to use the Outlander PHEV for work purposes over 50% of the time, you’ll unlock some handy tax deductions—think interest payments, depreciation, and GST credits.

Self-employed but leaning more toward personal use? A low-doc car loan cuts through the red tape, making financing simple without mountains of paperwork.
